Adult
A big part of Christian Education is our Adult Education. Each Sunday, the adult parishioners meet at 9:30 for Bible study or to discuss pertinent and topical issues. Fr. Peacock and other members of the parish conduct those sessions.
Our educational opportunities are not limited to Sunday. Men and women’s Bible studies meet at St. John’s on Saturday mornings at 7:30, and a Bible study follows the noonday Eucharist every Wednesday. A non-denominational Community Bible Study meets at St. John’s Monday evenings at 7:00 during the school year. Small groups also meet around the parish, and special studies are held throughout the year especially during Lent.
Parish Organizations and Activities
Acolytes: Formerly known as altar boys, they assist the celebrant at the Eucharist. This ministry is open to anyone, male or female, young or adult.
Altar Guild: The members of this ministry prepare the Lord’s Table for the Eucharist. Duties are rotated on a weekly basis.
Choir and Music: Jack Yerby is our organist. He, along with Sarah Pope and Sue Fredrickson, work together to develop traditional and contemporary forms of worship. Traditional hymns are usually sung at the 8:00 service each Sunday, and contemporary musical worship at the 10:30 service. Great singing voices are not a requirement for being a part of our musical worship but rather an enjoyment of singing. Our musical groups are always looking for new folks to participate in the Choir or Praise Team. Everyone is urged to join.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM’s): It is the practice of the Episcopal Church to involve its members in all aspects of its ministry. Thus, the laity help at the altar by administering the chalice, reading the Prayers of the People and the lessons. They are also involved in visiting and taking communion to shut-ins and hospitalized folk who cannot make it to church.
Prayer Ministry: Prayer is at the heart of our relationship with God. At St. John's we have an email prayer chain with folks dedicated to daily prayer on behalf of others. If you would like to be a part of this prayer ministry, contact us. In addition, if you have a prayer request drop us an email.
Daughters of the King: This is a religious order in which the members take a vow of prayer and service for the rest of their lives. The organization strengthens the lives of members in their dedication to Christ, the Church, and the community.
LOGOS: St. John’s publishes a monthly newsletter, the LOGOS, to inform the parish about coming events and news. The newsletter is mailed to everyone in the parish. You can leave your mailing address at the church office to be included in the mailing list or send us a quick email.
Bible Studies and Small Groups: There are several Bible study groups at St. John’s. One group meets every Saturday morning at St. John’s to study Scripture and to pray together. Another group meets after the noonday Eucharist each Wednesday to study Scripture over a brownbag lunch, and yet another group of community members meet at St. John’s each Monday evening at 7:00 for a Community Bible Study.
Small groups also meet in various people’s homes for fellowship, study, and prayer. If you would like more information about belonging to a small group, contact us.
